• You Have to Go is a critical look into a photographer’s role in the creation of beauty.  In an age of decreased media literacy, photographs are often looked at as absolute truth. A photograph depicts a moment exactly as it was. Therefore, any incidental attractiveness of a photo can be credited to an appealing subject and high quality equipment. Is the job of the photographer actually to capture what is in front of them matter of factly, or can they elevate the mundane into more? The subject for this experiment is the public bathroom: spaces everyone uses, but where no one intends to linger. In photographing practical, even unpleasant, spaces You Have to Go is an irreverent look into form, function, and an artist’s place in the process of creation.
